I'm trying to put my finger on exactly why, but something about this book just never really clicked for me. Like on the tin it's a lot of tropes I was expecting to like, I mean, friends to lovers, forced proximity, only one bed,  demi-ace representation (probably?), all good stuff

I think part of it is that for a significant portion of the book there was no real conflict pushing the plot along so it's really just them working through their feelings and developing their relationship, which was tender and sweet and all that, but also wasn't really enough imo. And then when there was a bit of conflict introduced it just didn't feel very compelling. Like the back and forth and miscommunication and all that just didn't work for me, and, I'm ngl, both Will and Martin really frustrated me at times

Also, I skipped over Hartley's book and I feel like there's probably some important context in that book for the start of this one?? You get the gist of it but I spent the first couple of chapters just very confused

Martin is relatable. Will is wonderful. The two together are so so so sweet, but my favorite part of this novel is the angst. I felt my heart break every time their hearts broke. I could have sat in the floor in a puddle for what this sadness this made me feel. My only critique would be that I wanted to see more pining in the beginning, from both of them. That might be my personal preference for slow burn though.

This was THOROUGHLY enjoyable. The sheer TENSION between Will and Martin was unbelievable. I loved the conversations they shared, especially their pet names for one another. And Sebastian just knows how to write angst like no other. It makes the HEA all the more sweet. Also, the chronic illness rep in this book was so good, it was so nuanced and relatable. My one critique is that Sebastian didn’t write the reactions of the characters to their situations all too well in the first half. Where was the realisation for Will that he was in love with his best friend, and where was the shock and joy for Martin when they got together?
I think that their get together moment needed to be much more sudden and all-at-once, rather than easing into it as it what happened.
The friends-to-lovers trope could have been played up so much more if these reactions were recorded.
