I think I expected it to be more erotic than romantic, but it was a lovely romance novel for a relaxing weekend with low stakes and sweet characters.

I'm trying to put my finger on exactly why, but something about this book just never really clicked for me. Like on the tin it's a lot of tropes I was expecting to like, I mean, friends to lovers, forced proximity, only one bed,  demi-ace representation (probably?), all good stuff

I think part of it is that for a significant portion of the book there was no real conflict pushing the plot along so it's really just them working through their feelings and developing their relationship, which was tender and sweet and all that, but also wasn't really enough imo. And then when there was a bit of conflict introduced it just didn't feel very compelling. Like the back and forth and miscommunication and all that just didn't work for me, and, I'm ngl, both Will and Martin really frustrated me at times

Also, I skipped over Hartley's book and I feel like there's probably some important context in that book for the start of this one?? You get the gist of it but I spent the first couple of chapters just very confused

This is so soft and tender and sweet. I loved it so much. The affection and intimacy that Will and Martin had was just lovely. I’m a sucker for idiots in love and hurt/comfort and this book had both of those in spades. There is no semblance of a plot, which is not a criticism — I loved the complete focus on these two idiots in their cottage, but for those who love more plot-driven books: this is not for you.

I did find the Americanisms in this one a bit grating. I’ve resigned myself to the odd ‘gotten’ and missing prepositions in historicals written by Americans (and Cat Sebastian is by far one of the better authors for not having Americanisms in her work), but this even had American wildflowers in it! It’s a testament to how much I loved this book that I’m still giving it five stars despite them.

I’m so sad I have finished this series because it was cosy and gentle in all the best ways.

This was a very sweet book, and the MCs were really cute together. I enjoyed the book but not much happens. It felt very much like the definition of “no plot just vibes.”

The audiobook narrator was great.

I loooooved this. It had every thing I like: only one bed, friends to lovers, small cast of characters, brothers, sweet sweet tenderness, believable stakes, and so much ooey gooey hurt/comfort that I clutched my heart and gasped aloud multiple times.

Yes! This was so good and tender! I love the slow-burn friends-to-lovers development, beautifully done over a period that's longer than two weeks. This story has barely any plot at all, which is how I like my romance tbh - just a nice domestic slice-of-life story and watching the relationship develop and characters unfold. I love how both characters are very concerned for each other's well-being. I appreciate the exploration of chronic illness and trauma as well as sexuality of both characters, but in particular what is quite obviously demisexuality of one of the characters. And I especially loved all the tenderness.
