I mean this is just indescribable. Unbelievably phenomenal and I’m in awe. I had extremely high expectations that were well matched.

This anthology features short stories, poetry, and artwork centered around angels - but it’s also so much more that that. It’s very queer and filled with beautiful love and acceptance. There’s heavy topics as well, though, and TW are provided at the beginning of each story - which I thought was a lovely touch. Various genres are covered as well, so there’s something everyone can enjoy.

I loved this so much. Each piece was incredible: filled with beautiful prose, striking imagery, and a sense of great passion. I didn’t want to stop reading this, but I also slowed myself down so I could absorb it to the fullest. Such a wonderful reading experience and I can’t recommend this highly enough. I’ve also found some authors I definitely need to check out.

I want this book just inscribed on my bones.

It's been quite a while since I really read any short stories, even as part of an anthology, but this was a great one to get back into it with. I won't comment on the poetry as that's not my forte at all, but each short story had something unique to it. This anthology is a boiling pot of genres, with the only binding agent being the overarching theme of angels. We see angels in all ways that you can imagine. If you are in any way interested in angels, there will be something here for you.

My standout stories:
1. Seasons of God (I would beg for this to become a whole novel)
2. And the Mountains Melt Like Wax // We Suffer in Fire (linked short stories)
3. Misery in Company
4. Hashem Yireh
5. Pieces (probably the simplest/easiest to understand piece of this collection, but it stands out nonetheless) (would also read a whole novel of this)

It was a really unique read. I've never read something quite like this before but I loved it. It had religion and stuff. It had angels, and demons. It had the perfect reps. I loved it. The poems and proses were both very well written and amazing. Loved it! I did get nightmares about the stuff in the book but we are here for it.

There's just something about angels that makes this anthology very special.

Devout has something for everyone, each creator gave their own piece and their own style. It's an incredibly engaging book, despite the huge differences between each of the author's narrative style, each story leaves you wanting more.

As with everything you can find your personal favourites, there's some that you might like more than other, but that's also the beauty of it: You will love at least one story. You will not feel a normal amount of love about it, it's definitely beyond it (divine, if you will)

This is a book that it's worth a chance, whether you read it in order or from the end to the beginning, it's an experience I would 100% recommend you should have.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
