I really enjoyed this book. Even more than the previous instalment in the series and was fascinated to have the original plot be so relevant to the story of this book.

All I have to say is pages 270-272 I may have read multiple times already

Read For:
🖤 Dark Romance
💘 Forced Proximity
😘 Enemies to Lovers
🧚‍♂️ Fantasy (Fae and Vampires)
🥀 Hades and Persephone Vibes

Absolutely such a cute book.  I love the characters, the plot, and the world building.  It was all so good.

Usually I struggled to read high fantasy but this was such an easy and entertaining read I read this in two days.  It was such an enjoyable book.

Grumpy touch starved fae that kills everything he touches (literally) meets a dying human who is able to get away with touching death himself.  Faenir was such a lovely character, Arlo was his perfect match for sure.  Their dynamic was written so perfectly.

I was rather disappointed with this and while there were aspects of that that I felt weren't really the book's fault, I was still disappointed. It didn't feel like it was a Hades and Persephone retelling (or at least it wasn't a very good one) and it just overall wasn't what I expected. It was a lot more heavy on the romance (if you could call it that) and the smut, which is fine but just not my cup of tea. Those thing by themselves I think could be forgiven, but I thought it was rather poorly written, I didn't buy the romance, and the fantasy elements felt overcomplicated and underexplained.

Arlo doesn’t want his sister to be taken in the Choosing by the elves. He’s also fighting off a sickness using Vampire Blood. Elf prince Faenir has a much different problem & wishes not to choose a human.

MLM, Enemies to Lovers, Hades & Persephone Retelling, 3 🔥

“Family does not constitute love as I am sure you have been led to believe. You cannot choose your family; love is earned not granted just because of shared blood.”

This is a hard book to review for me, I really do enjoy the premise of the Darkmourn universe and I'm always going to try and read M/M because LGBT books are something I am diving more into.
However I put this book down so many times and I was really looking forward to it, I had preordered it and everything.
The universe was very interesting, the plot interesting but I just couldn't vibe with Arlo as a main character, he was 80% well written but missing something I can't put my finger on. Probably the teenage angst that was turned up to 11
Again I found with the end of the book the plot was tidied up but the ending was too similar to The first book Lord of eternal night and I predicted the end only a few chapters in. (view spoiler)
I certainly will look at getting the next darkmourn book but I hope the author improves on both the writing style and the premise.
