This book was beautifully written at times. The plot dragged and I’m not sure how it won a Pulitzer.
And by the end it has you sympathizing with a damn Nazi which had me feeling very uncomfortable.
Don’t read unless you like historical war fiction.

It's a very heart-warming story of paths that cross. I'm not too much of a fan of how
one of the main characters dies, as this usually happens in war-based stories
but I did enjoy the epilogues to see how the characters ended up. It was a bit too detailed as I found that I was dragging myself until 2/3 of the book. It felt a bit anticlimactic but it was still beautifully written.

Beautifully layered writing - the story unfolds in such a way that sometimes I would think “Did I somehow miss something huge in a previous chapter?” but it was all intentional. I liked how the author uses Marie-Laure’s blindness as part of the story: there are vivid descriptions of sounds and smells,
and there is also a scene where I wasn’t 100% sure who she was interacting with without a physical description of the character.
This book is heartbreaking, and I would definitely check the content warnings.
Frederick’s story absolutely devastated me, as he was my favorite character. I did really appreciate Werner’s character arc as well.

The book was extremely good close to a 5/5 until two sentences ruined the book. It is a shame since up to that point the book was tense and thrilling. After those two sentences I almost didn’t want to finish the book. It left several key subplots/threads unanswered or answering weakly.
