A really interesting read about the History of NCEA and the way it currently functions (2016) in the New Zealand secondary education system. This text gives a lot of insight into the political demands which contributed to the development of this assessment system, and discusses how they continue to influence its evolution to date. The authors do an excellent job of front-lining the flexible intent of this qualification, the merits of standards-based assessment and the aspirational future of NCEA while also acknowledging its limitations and the challenges it has faced through implementation over the last 15 years.
