You know you love a book when you talk to it the whole time you read it. Even yell at it sometimes. I am hooked on this series. Im invested in these characters. I want to save everyone. The magic system and the providence cards are so cool. I want to know all the things about them. I did not want to stop reading this while also not wanting it to end. I cannot wait to read more by this author.

Book Review
Rating: 4.25 /5 Stars

"Two Twisted Crowns" by Rachel Gillig proves to be a satisfying yet veryyy slightly disappointing sequel to its strong debut, "One Dark Window." Gillig's storytelling prowess remains exceptional, creating a world that oozes opulence and gothic mystery, seamlessly complementing the narrative's unfolding complexity. The standout feature, the Providence cards and their role in shaping events, adds an engaging layer of intrigue. Elspeth's internal conflicts, particularly her battle against the Nightmare within, are portrayed with remarkable nuance, showcasing the author's commitment to character development.
While the magic system and character depth continue to shine, the sequel didn’t  fully match the intensity of the first book. A notable absence of Elspeth, the protagonist from the first installment, is a point of contention. The exploration of other character arcs, specifically Ione and Elm, is appreciated but felt forced, leaving a desire for a more prominent focus on Elspeth and Ravyn. Despite this, the book managed to leave me content and eager for Gillig's future works.

The plot is so good and that cannot be contested!! I think I actually liked this a lot better than the first book and I also read it faster. My biggest issue is even though the characters backstories were well developed I feel like they don’t all necessarily have personality. ALL ELSBETH DID IN THIS BOOK WAS WHINE SHE WAS SO ANNOYING! I was annoyed by both her and Raven to be honest (I know I’m spelling it wrong but I listened via audiobook for both books I’m sorry). Their relationship isn’t really developed any further in this book in my opinion. I liked Elm a lot in this book and Ionie as well!! They really stood out to me as having a little bit more personality.

Another reason why the characters were so frustrating was that there’s literally THREE female characters and so many men and they’re all related but not in the same way. AND THE CHARACTERS ARE DUMB LIKE RAVEN BABY THE SHEPHERD KING WAS DROPPING YOU BREADCRUMBS ABOUT YOUR PAST LEFT AND RIGHT IT SHOULDNT TAKE YOU THE WHOLE BOOK TO PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER DHDJFKGJSH

ANYWAY! It really was a good book I just clearly have some frustrations about the lack of women and character development :) excellent plot, excellent unique fantasy world
