This started as a tale of the girl, the King, and the monster they became. However, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would read “the perfect book”. Yet, here I am, sitting on my bedroom floor Friday night after work thinking about the terrific story I just read.

This book is perfect, every aspect of it is just marvellous, and I really can’t comprehend what I just read. It doesn’t lack anything. The characters? Every single one of them had such a crazy arc from the previous book and yet, they retain their own original charm. I do not see them any different, I see grown and real characters. The story? Magnificent, out of this world. Even though we were going back and forth between Ravyn and the Nightmare’s journey to retrieve the last card and what was happening in the castle with Elm and Ione (on top of revisiting Taxus’ story with Elspeth), it never felt overwhelming, on the contrary, I felt a sort of desperation to keep reading because I was just that intrigued.

It’s been quite a while since I last read a book that made me feel like this, so I will cherish this feeling for a long time and I just know nothing will top this book for me, at least this year.

Bravo, really.

This duology is definitely in my top 5 reads of the year. So captivating. The characters are so lovable and have you rooting for them even through their mistakes. The magic system is so intriguing and I loved learning more and more as the story progressed.
