This is, what I hope to be, the start of a great series about wolf shifters. The novella opens up with Lily, a Pack Guardian, meeting her mate in a bar. This story opens the door for what is to come. It is a great set up to the series and left me wishing the next novella was available to find out what happens with the Pack.

short but not sweet.

I'm struggling to start where it goes wrong.....it's a novella but a whole book has been tried to be squeezed in - doesn't work. I see it's a series- maybe it picks up but from this I don't feel any inclination. ...plus the next one is just as short - 103 pages.

it took an hour to read. in that space of time I was meant to like the characters...how can I. the main character (Lily) we see is basically building up to go have sex with the wolf (Kieran in human form!) at the bar after 2 years of abstinence dye to her biting her last human lover and having to kill him.

They go to get it on but horror - rogue wolves. who don't seem very "rogue". Lily starts to regain lost Guardian powers...they crawl away threatening to return and we go to a very......unsatisfying mating. you know what I mean! most books shifters go for a while. but this is one night. ..actually not even that - they were both so eager they had sex once and fell asleep!

felt rushed, wrong and just not for me. I'm sorry!

This was definitely a novella instead of an actual full-length book. It cut off very abruptedly. and ended at just 44% of the Kindle e-book - the rest of it was full of other book previews.

We are introduced to Lily and Kieran and a side cast of siblings and friends, but the story ends pretty much after Lily and Kieran sleep together. There is an antagonistic rogue pack and the concept of Pack Guardians introduced, but we only get a few paragraphs of what the rogues wanted and a light description of what a Pack Guardian is. There is absolutely no closure on the plot of the former, and left me with many questions for the latter.

The subsequent novellas look like they focus on different pairings already - I don't think Lily and Kieran's relationship was explored enough in detail to end after a single novella.

I read book 2 of the series before book 1, I thought that the second book didn't work for me because I was missing info covered in the first. It would seem not. There is so little world building done in this book, it's terrible.

I knew this work to be a novella, but I still feel like the author left me with a lot of confusion and pieces that didn't click together. Great writing style, but not so great on plot and creating realistic tension.

Lily just find a male specimens and want him to be part of her pack and being the leader of Black mesa pack she doesn't make new addition to the pack as new born are difficult to control but she broke the pack and now the rebels are against them and for her loyalty matters the most and her lost love came back to her rescue and together they decided to save the pack from any danger that come to them and that's her biggest responsibility for now. She found a love and Kieron being his side and guardians of the pack he want to help his mate and find a balance in the pack and he can control the anger of his mate with easy going attitude towards situation.

Guardian Wolf (Black Mesa Wolves #1) by J.K. Harper – This was a freebie series starter. Some serious baggage has its hooks in our leading lady. Happy Reading!

This was too short to be able to get into. It had promise with the conflict that was built up, but nothing happened with it. How could it? The book ended at just over 50% of the book and the rest was promo and a sample of the next book, where the conflict continues.

The writing was fine and the author is good at building the emotional tension and attraction between the characters. It's the only reason why it's 2.5 for me. It's just a shame that the story was too short to focus on anything, really. I'd call this porn with a hint of plot.

Just couldn't get in to this series. The first book as OK but part way through the second book I had to give up because I just didn't really care about these characters and that is an important part of any book for me.
