I know I give out 5 star reads like candy on Halloween but come on there is no way I could not give this book 5 stars. I took a three-day break in between reading it though because I had no motivation. The reason for this was because these chapters are so God damn long, it's not even funny. Overall, a fun fantasy to read. While I haven't read anything like it, it gives A Court of Thorns and Roses.

This book basically was the plot of acotar. Fairies, Trials, useless sibling oh my. The main character was annoying never thinking a single thing through. I almost DNFed this book many times. The first time I enjoyed this book was the last hour. If the rest of the book was written that way I would have actually like it. Also, I really did not like the audiobook readers voice.

This was an awesome first book in a fantasy series and I was absolutely hooked from the start. I loved the characters and trying to figure out everyone’s motives. I am diving into book two immediately!!!

I received a free copy of this book from the author, in return for an honest review. Hooked from the start, and this was a different genre for me! Loved the fact that the characters weren't perfect, even behaved in ways that I didn't like, but suited the story and their identity. Their characters grew with their experiences. Another author may have been tempted to write some of the scenes with graphic violence, but I felt K.J. struck just the right level. The author's description of the environment and 'people' had me invested in the outcome!
I'm now engrossed in book 2, which is so far, just as good...

After reading a friend's review on this book I was intrigued and so I got it from my local library. I honestly had no idea what to expect but I ended up reading most of the book in one day (and I'm out of my slump, yay!).

Some scenes were not the most original and reminded me of other books, but I kind of enjoyed the feeling of comfort I got from that? And there were a couple of twists I did not expect!

And I still have questions that were not answered in book one, so this morning I went to the library and borrowed the rest of the series.

The farther I read into the book, the more it felt like a series of "dramatic" scenes strung together rather than a story that made sense.  I also didn't like the MC at all. Way too much barging into what are supposed to be complex, dangerous situations without thinking or asking relevant questions and then feeling like she's been betrayed when her own recklessness comes back to bite her. The fantasy world had some interesting potential, but not enough to keep me reading.
