Honestly was not expecting to like this as much as I did. This was entertaining, funny, and pretty quick in pace. It was challenging, candid, and such a varied and interesting story. I will say, there were some moments that were pretty graphic and I wish it wasn’t so, but I was thankful for the author’s blatant honesty in the rest of the book. An inspirational tale of recovery and growth through challenges and adversity.

Cheryl takes us on an adventure through nature, making new friends and lasting memories along the way. But this tale isn’t all happy and we get a clear view of Cheryl’s tumultuous mindset as she struggles through her hike on the Pacific Coast Trail.

Starting the hike due to the loss of her mother to cancer, her own divorce and the start of a drug addiction, Cheryl finds peace and sense of self through the difficulties she overcomes along the journey.

The ending is a bit abrupt - after all the times she mentions her feet, I really wanted to know if she did any permanent damage?  Just one of the questions I have rolling around in my head.

It feels like some of it is  fabricated/exaggerated.

Not sure what to think of the portrayals of sex and desire - are they candid or authentic or crass or hyperbolic?

I did, however, appreciate how every interaction with a man on the trail felt tense because that’s how it feels to be a woman. However, as a woman reading this, it was exhausting.

If you’ve got family stuff, know it’s central to the book.
