1.5

I’ve thought a lot about what I should rate this book, and I’ve settled on 2 stars!

Starting with what I liked, I really appreciated how simple yet complex this book was. It was simple in the writing, yet there was so much depth to the characters and their struggles. It took me a bit to get used to the writing style, but eventually it grew on me!

This book is split into three parts, and in my opinion, I absolutely LOVED the first part. It hooked me to the story and introduced me to characters I expected to love throughout the book. I had my jaw on the floor at the end of part 1 and was so excited to continue the book.

Things started to go downhill around the second half of the book. I started to lose interest, plus it took me a while to finish the book.

For starters, I began to really dislike Rosie. I disagreed with lots of the decisions she made, specifically her lack of communication and keeping pretty important things to herself. For some reason that really bugged me and made me not care too much for her character.

Not only that, I started to dislike Will as well! I initially liked him but began to grew frustrated with him in the third part of the book, mainly because of HIS choices as well. So basically the same reason for not liking Rosie, it just happened later on and for different reasons.

When it comes to a romance book, I want to support and cheer on the main couple. I found myself not really caring about how Will and Rosie turned out in the end, which is my main problem with the story. If I’m not rooting for the main couple in the romance book, I can’t say that’s a good thing.

While there was many things I felt weren’t my cup of tea in this book, I can’t help but give props to Claire Daverly with this being a debut novel. I loved the writing and hope she’ll continue to write books in the future because I will read them!!

I’ve seen many people compare this book to Normal People, which I have yet to read, but if you are a fan of that book or a romance without spice, I think you’d enjoy this!
