A series of short stories where just about every woman character is fat or struggling with their self-image regardless of their weight. No one is truly happy. I didn't enjoy reading this, but it wasn't bad. Just not really my type of story.

I am so glad I read this book when I did. I would not have been able to appreciate the nuance and grey morality of the main character had I read it sooner. Such a great book!

✨ Thrifted ✨

This was a very tricky one to rate. Mona Awad writes incredibly well and after reading Bunny this was on my radar. But I found this one for me fell flat; it didn’t have the energy to excite me as much as Bunny did.
It was still an interesting read with lots of content warnings needed (let me post them below), and I found myself getting a bit emotional through some of the parts.
SpoilerI wish Elizabeth had been able to do more with Tom’s and her relationship. I was frustrated that the porn scene was never addressed!

I’m giving this a 3 out of 5 stars ✨ Thank you 🥰

Absolutely gutting; if you are or have known a woman who struggles with her weight this will hit hard. The disorientating and bewildering injustice of being stuck permanently chasing an unobtainable goal is all too real.

This book is an owie.

Like it hurt, and i related to Lizzie and her struggled with eating, weight gain, weight loss, greif, resentment and pain was so incredibly relatable.

I liked the lack of reoslved ending and the raw and realness of tone and charceter.

My desire for Lizzie to see herself as more than her body and appearance made me reflect on my own perception.

I would recommend, especially for those who have struggled with body image issues

This book definitely should have come with a trigger warning, as I'm someone who struggles with body image issues and ED. However, Mona Awad does a fantastic job at pulling back the curtain on the truth of battling negative body image and self-preception. It is all-consuming, day in and day out.

Reading about Lizzie's story is a bit of a wake up call to be gentler with myself and also illuminated the harsh reality of how the world views women in larger bodies.
