What an action-packed, heart-wrenching conclusion to the Red Rising trilogy!

Darrow has been beaten down time and time again by the Golds, and though he's been fighting back, only time will tell if his efforts have been enough. And how do Darrow and his friends create the kind of society and world that they want without completely breaking everyone in the process?

Morning Star starts off somewhat slow but rapidly picks up its pace and doesn't slow down until the bitter end. There were parts of the novel that absolutely broke my heart, but those moments just show how much Pierce Brown made me deeply care about these characters and their journeys. Throughout the entire trilogy, Brown creates strong character arcs and shows the complexity of the society they live in as well as how some of them finally realize how they have been complicit to the system and where they choose to go from there.

Darrow has grown a lot since he first infiltrated the Gold's society, and seeing the way he leads others through compassion and example is inspiring. Brown paints him as such a real character through his insecurities in leadership and in worrying if he's just leading his friends to their ultimate demise.

I loved seeing where all of the characters end up and how Brown still leaves their endings up to slight interpretation. The conclusion of this novel definitely brings readers hope for Darrow's future and simultaneously hope for our world.

I highly recommend the Red Rising trilogy to readers who appreciate complex characters and storylines as well as action-packed science-fiction novels that focus on how a damaged society can still be redeemed.

I already did not really like the first two books, because of the multiple problems with them - going from racism to queerphobia, the downplay of physical, mental and most importantly sexual abuse, the whole „man is greater than woman“ stuff which wasn’t exactly hidden and most importantly the blatant fascism, especially when it comes to government systems.
In this book, he definitely lost me after an actual discussion described in the book about how the biggest threat to the group is democracy? Hell no.

I’m really glad I did not buy physical copies of the trilogy, because that would’ve been a waste of both time and money.

Also, I can’t believe this book got even close to being nominated for an award award, much less to actually win one?? Rest just feels so goddamn wrong :/

This book was an amazing end to Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown !!

Throughout the trilogy we follow Darrow on his journey from red to gold to something more. But, in Morning Star we see shift from Darrow as the sole focus. Instead, we find that those around him are also just as important in fixing society. We truly see Darrow grow from a child into a man and this is reflected in his actions.

Be prepared… in this book some of the most loved and most hated character die & others live… or maybe they do both (it’s hard to explain you’ll just have to read it to find out).

  • A lot of fighting, as is to be expected of the last book in a YA trilogy
  • All the battling wasn't as interesting as I hoped it would be, apart from a few notable exceptions
  • Really liked the beginning and the end, but a lot of the stuff in between was just alright
  • Maybe I was just burnt out on this series though? I read over 1200 pages of it in two days, wouldn't be too surprising
