Equal parts unfounded opinion and generally decent advice. Unfortunately they’re mixed together in such a way as to make most of the book a pain in the ass to read.
I get the impression that Levine is projecting his personal experiences heavily onto the subject and it colors his impartiality and credibility.

This book discusses trauma from a very biological and natural perspective. The author provides good insight, information, and techniques to use with clients in a way that honors our primitive instincts and flows with the universe.

Really enjoyed this perspective on trauma, and I am just dipping my toe into learning about somatic healing and the role of the body. It might have been a better one to listen to because it can be a bit of a slog to eye-read books like these. It’s definitely readable by someone like me who isn’t a professional but you have to be somewhat versed or interested in trauma and somatic techniques to be gripped by this.

The book is largely theoratical, with little emperical evidence to back the claims. The theory itself is intresting.
Without rambling too much, there are two things staying with me from this book.
1. The way trauma influences society intergenerationally.
2. How commonly and easily children are traumatised by medical procedures.
Read, but keep in mind that theories sre useless without evidence.

Had I not previously read about stress and the stress cycle, this would have seemed altogether too woo-woo for me. As it is though, it was interesting to gain further insight into somatic therapy.

Informative read on the whole. Some takes are out-dated but most of it stands.
