this collection took me a second to get into. i guess i hadn't realized that its being written in (pseudo-) old english meant that it would be about as hard to get into as an actual old english text. but it was a daring collection, and is now one of my new favorites.

incredibly creative way to approach and analyse queerness through poetry. charles basically deconstructs the english language as we know it by writing the words differently. of course, you can still tell what the words are and understand the poems. is it my favorite approach? no, but i really admire how unique and original it is.

The concept of altering the English language was a novel idea, but it didn’t really hit home for me. Most of the time spent reading was focused on deciphering the language which ultimately took away from much of the meaning behind the poems.
Perhaps rereading it will give a different perspective...

completely distinct from any poetry i've ever read before. it's beautiful and definitely worth the lingering in each poem to maximise understanding.

Absolutely remarkable. I've been struggling to find contemporary poets that I really like and this is one of my favorite poetry books I've ever read. The poems are beautiful even if they take a bit of getting used to. I need to find more of her work soon.
