This was an enjoyable read. I really enjoyed the added context about Victorian England and other real world facts that are relevant to the stories. A lot of the "advice" given in the book is based on one or two anecdotes from the stories and are superficial at best, but still interesting. Still a good read for a fan of Doyle's work.

What a fun little book! Part how-to, part summary of Holmesiana, this book contains tips for detection bolstered by examples from the Holmes canon, as well as a slew of interesting factoids about the time period and the possible inspirations for Holmes (and Moriarty), and quotes from Holmes and Watson on a variety of topics. Now that I'm done, I want to go back and re-read the original Holmes adventures.

I managed to pull through...
It wasn't a difficult to read kind of book, rather it was all over the place. The target audience is unclear. I am a Sherlock Holmes fan, and I thought this would be a deeper analysis of the character's methods, but it just seemed to be a surface level description of what Sherlock Holmes does throughout the many stories he was written in.
...Which is fine, you know... Then there were also very uninteresting trivias in the middle, which turned me off from being engaged with the book.
I really REALLY tried to like this book. And I thought I would've liked it, in the first few chapters especially since the author went deep into Holmes' methods. I thought I could learn and use it in my own life, but in the later chapters it became really irrelevant to me lol. "How to Fake Your Own Death" "How to Deal With Women"
I'm just glad to be done.

It is very difficult to find things about Sherlock Holmes that I do not already know, but this book did that in a highly entertaining way. Plus, the author's name is awesome. :)

I am going to repeat what another reviewer said and say, "Who is this written for?" It is a bit too superficial for people who know the canon well, but it spoils everything as if you should know everything already. I kinda felt, why am I reading this? It is beautiful, though, and entertaining enough for me to finish it. I thought it would be more like those silly "How to Survive A..." books. Oh well.

+velmi vtipně a zároveň prakticky podané informace
- čte se to pomaleji, protože se nejedná o příběh
