this book was a pretty cool mystery.

my main issue is that the clues felt all over the place, and that the main character was kinda annoying. she should’ve listened to when she was encouraged to get help, but oh well, her PTSD gave me a good story to read.

overall, i was interested the whole time i read this book. it was creepy, and mysterious, and just proves that history repeats itself and that solving a crime is tricky.

This one was on my TBR and one I wanted to read, but when a friend suggests a buddy read, I had to put it on the top of my stack!

What a thrill this book was. The mystery lurking in the shadows and the twists that kept me on my toes. I felt Stacy did an amazing job because I picked up some characteristics that had my gut saying one thing while Katie was picking up on others and saying another. I absolutely love that! It made for such a great discussion and we could see how each other picked up on different clues and why.

I sincerely felt for Chloe throughout the whole book, her life was for sure not easy. I can relate in terms of her anxiety, but only to an extent. I’d never wish what she had to go through on anyone.

The only thing I was disappointed in, for lack of other words to describe how I felt, was the ending. I felt that I had so many unanswered questions. But I also felt like it was left open for maybe a potential part two, who knows. I’d love to see how Chloe copes going forward and how her life progresses. I could go on with my questions, but to keep from spoiling I won’t.

I will say this one had me wanting to keep reading and not put it down. If it wasn’t for starting a new job, I probably would have finished this one so much sooner. So definitely be prepared for a page turner!

When Chloe Davis was twelve years old, her father confessed to the murder of six teenage girls and was sent to prison for life. Twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist, still haunted by her past. As the twentieth anniversary of the killings approaches, teenage girls start disappearing again, and Chloe can't help but wonder if there is a connection between the two sets of disappearances.

The unreliable narrator POV was strong in this book, although I did like Chloe overall, which I cannot say for all unreliable narrators. The amount of self-medicating and mixing medication with alcohol was also prominent, so if that's something bothersome or triggering to you, I would definitely steer clear of this book.

The first half of the book was kind of slow, in my opinion, as I would have liked to have a bit more action earlier on. Conversely, I did appreciate that the characters' backgrounds and storylines were well-established, as some authors make their characters too two-dimensional, which makes for a boring read.

I guessed several of the plot points before they came up, including partially guessing some of the twists, but I don't see the "big" one coming, thankfully. Also, one of my main predictions from very early on ended up being a red herring, so that was both comforting and disappointing, I guess? Mostly comforting because I didn't want to have guessed it from nearly the start of the book, but a little disappointing because who doesn't like to be right? 😂

Overall, I was definitely drawn into the book and wanted to keep reading it, but I would have preferred more action throughout the story, as opposed to it all being packed into the last 1/3 of the book.
