This book gets a good rating because it's a homage to a different time and also older books make me weak. I loved that this 11 year old was basically a bad ass and lived alone while his dad worked and left him for weeks.
I also want a friendly raccoon friend.
Probably won't happen as I am not nearly as caring as ole Sterling.
I read this book because my best friend refuses to read books and he mentioned he may have only read one whole book in his whole life.
This is that book..
I immediately bought it and read it. Sometimes books can bring you closer to people and I can tell why he may have liked this story for sure. It's a happy tale and I think a great book for a young kids getting into reading.

As always Thanks for listening to me jibberjab,
Justin

This was a non-fiction book I chose to read because we had to read nonfiction for my 8th grade reading class. Fun...... I know. Yep well, I liked this book. It was a cute story about a boy and his pet raccoon. True story.

My mom read this book to me when I was little, and it is always so cute, endearing, and mischievous. Would definitely recommend to younger readers.

A sweet story set in Wisconsin during WWI about a boy and his pet raccoon.

More kids need to read this gem! It’s an old Newbery Honor about the author and his pet raccoon when he was a kid. I loved how it emphasized hard work and ingenuity. Of course, times have changed and you would get in a LOT of trouble if you caught and kept a raccoon as a pet. But it was still a delightful tale! (And no animals were injured!)
