The book goes back and forth between 1939 and 1989. In 1989 a woman finds an unopened letter from 1939 in her father's stamp collection. She and the stamp expert she takes her father's collection to for appraisal decide to investigate where the letter started out and why it was never delivered, and why this man has it.

Great story, great writing just a little anticlimactic at the end.

Great story! I loved the characters and how it was told and the back and forth. I also loved historical fictions and this didn’t disappoint.

Absolutely wonderful, intriguing story which includes Austria under the Nazis, making and collection of stamps, a woman in California with a marriage breaking up, and romances of great beauty. Characters are drawn richly and the story is told so well. This is a book with two time/place frames: 1939 Austria and 1990 America and also Europe. I listened to the audio with excellent narration. I highly recommend this for anyone who cares about anyone else.

Didn't want to put it down. Had to... but didn't want to. Interesting bits of history in this book.
