Hell yeah brother. I'm so truly amped to be diving into a series late, LOVING the world building, and being able to plow right into the next book.

Set in a fantasy world based on the ancient Indigenous civilizations of the Americas, Black Sun follows 4 morally-grey yet loveable POV characters on a fascinating adventure culminating in a bloody solar eclipse celebration. I loved it!

This unique novel has it all—adventure on the high seas, political intrigue, the prophesied avatar of a god, giant crow mounts, conspiring cults, mermaid sea captains, and more. It is fast-paced, well-plotted, and allows the reader to build a genuine attachment to its characters (I may or may not be in love with one in particular). It also strikes a great balance between dark and gruesome scenes and moments of lightness.

I loved reading a fantasy epic set in an Indigenous society instead of a medieval European one. There's also diverse LGBTQ+ representation, including multiple characters who use xe/xir pronouns in a way that is delightfully normalized.

As someone who adores YA fantasy, I have been actively trying to read more adult books over the past few years and can honestly say that this is the best adult fantasy I have read so far.

“Today he would become a god. His mother told him so.”

This book was absolutely incredible! From the intense beginning, I was emotionally invested in both the plot and the characters. I couldn't put it down, devouring most of the book in just a few days. The tension and emotion were palpable, and the stakes felt incredibly high, making every twist and turn of the plot feel intense. I definitely found myself screaming a few times for the characters! The fusion of fantasy elements with pre-Columbian civilizations created a richly detailed and immersive world that I can't wait to explore further in book 2!
