The book before the film. Villains have children. Now what will happen next?

In terms of the book itself, there were a lot of errors in various places. Fortunately, the errors didn't take away from the content.

Eh, not bad but also not very good, either.

The text had many mistakes (mostly typos and missing words) and it is in serious need of some editing.

The plot was okay. It's pretty much at the same level as all Descendants movies: fun, easy to follow and entertaining enough to keep reading 'til the end.

I loved the Descendants movie so when I had the chance, I picked this one up. It's a great prequel and fans of the movie and Disney will definitely love this book. It's aimed at younger readers but still enjoyable.

Decided to read after rewatching the movies. Pretty obvious this has the target audience of 13 yo and not exactly a girl in her 20s that's still grieving the loss of an actor that passed 5 years ago, but even if the story was kinda dumb, it was enjoyable and it was nice to have more details on the characters that i like so much. Will keep reading the entire saga :)

I would like to start off by saying that I'm probably a little bit older than the targeted age demographic. Before reading this, my friend's 11 year old sister told me she enjoyed this book and I would too, in mid-November. It sat on my night table for at least three months, and I went through a month-long phase of being too lazy to read actual books and just resorted to fanfic on my phone. I also had no idea this was the prequel to a tv-movie on Disney Channel, and I'm somewhat glad I found out after reading The Isle of the Lost. I haven't watched anything on Disney in at least three years, and this information probably would've put me off this book entirely.

That being said, I actually enjoyed The Isle of the Lost! It has a great concept behind it, I was intrigued by the children of infamous fairy tale villains who were not as cool as their parents. They all had a similar development, their parents being disappointed in them for not being as evil, but that was to be expected.

I thought I would like Jay the best, mainly because I remember loving the movie Alaadin, even though I don't think I've seen it in forever. (Jafar was also my favourite Disney villain.) I turned out to like Carlos and Evie much more than I did Mal and Jay, because they were straying from all the evil in their world. That made them much more likable than Mal with her ten year old vengeance against Evie, although I was proud when
Spoilershe touched Malificent's scepter instead of making Evie do so!

Towards the beginning of this novel, I felt as if the author used a lot of descriptive words. This isn't necessarily bad, I just sometimes felt as if all the adjectives weren't creating a picture in my mind. I also didn't always catch the Disney movie references, it took me a while to remember who Cruella de Vil even was and from what movie she was from. That's probably just me, though.

My final thought is that if I ever find myself watching the Disney Channel, I would probably watch the Descendants movie just to see how things turn out for Mal, Jay, Evie, and Carlos.

This was a good light hearted read I enjoyed it. Love how this was a prequel based off the first movie.
I enjoyed how in the beginning of the book we see how life on the isle of the lost was like for mal, jay, evie and carlos before they were a friend group. Also the journey throughout the book their relationship changes to mischief buds. Love how it ends on how the first movie started.
I'm looking forward to the next book.

Reads like a movie geared toward the "tween" crowd.
