A bit of dark academia with a complex yet easy to follow magic system. The FMC snark had me laughing out loud, her flaws added to her charm.

Because there is so much magical stuff to unpack, and a world within our own to establish, it takes a little time to get into this book. Once I was in though, I needed to know what was going to happen next. This book is thrilling with twists that were unexpected and gruesome. We love an underdog story especially when she comes out on top. Looking forward to the second book.

This was a dark adventurous story on the surface, led by the twists of magic. But beyond the veil, it is a scathing read on institutions like Yale, and the dark sides of privilege. Artfully read, I loved every second of this book. And a bonus of an interview with the author and lead narrator!
