An Affair with a Notorious Heiress
3 Stars

Not one of Heath's better books.

Alastair "Rex" Mabry, Marquess of Rexton, insists on marrying a woman without reproach but finds himself unwillingly attracted to Mathilda "Tillie" Paget, a scandalous divorcée. Much of the first half is dedicated to both the hero and heroine's internal musings on why their attraction is problematic and the disastrous consequences if they give in to it. This leads slows the pacing and results in unnecessary and irritating repetition.

Thankfully, the pacing in the second half picks up once the "big secret" concerning Rex's agreement with Tillie's uncle emerges, and the romance finally gets going. The relationship between Rex and Tillie is sweet and the hero-in-pursuit plot is entertaining overall.

The final installment in the series focuses on Tillie's sister and Rex's brother, who are so very different. It will be interesting to see how they fare with each other.

This book started out really strong, but lost my interest by the middle. However if you are a Heath fan, this is a fun entry in the series.

I wish I could get into the book but dnfing at 70%. I'm bored with this couple. Admittedly I have been dnfing an unusually high amount of books lately, so maybe I'm just in a slump. Wish Alice C had a new Prizefighter

This book really had a lot of potential....the characters were likeable and they of course were very attractive and full of passion.
Naturally there was someting behing the divorce and scandal that ruined Tillie's reputuation. Otherwise it would really be bland. Howerver, the fact that Tillie once again had to turn out to be a woman that only had sex with one man and had to redeem herself by admitting she actually is very inexperienced was boring and so clichee.
Why is it okay for the man to admit to having sex with many women, even married women, and she was only fully accepted once she told him that he is only the second man she slept with?
This double-standard is boring and overdone.

This had everything I've come to expect (and love) in a Lorraine Heath novel: love, romance, humor, and heart. Tillie and Rex they were so much fun to read, and the cameos made me smile. I can't wait to read Gina's story!

Enjoyed this one. It was a good ending to the series. Heroines with socially unacceptable issues... very interesting. Reston should have made his move sooner.
