not as engaging as american gods, but maybe it's my fault for expecting something of the same caliber. while there isn't nearly as much mythology present, the worldbuilding is still solid and the cast is intriguing, even if some of the side characters come across a little underdeveloped. not a fan of the romance,
Spoiler especially since the consent re: rosie and spider is pretty much nonexistent; there's a lot of coercion that's never properly addressed, and it bugs me. i'm hoping that's altered in the upcoming miniseries/rosie is given more agency.

Somehow ties a good mythological/magic plot with a good crime plot to make a great overall book.

i could totally visualize the book, the room that anansi makes for himself... very vivid writer, will definitely look for more books by Gaiman!

I wish we could give half stars on GoodReads because this book was probably closer to a 3.5 star rating for me, but I love Neil Gaiman so I'll round up. I think since it spins of the character of Anansi from American Gods and I loved that book, I wanted this book to be just as magical. It was, but it had more a playful tone that fit the character of Anansi and Spider. I found Spider kind of annoying through a lot of the book (which I think is the point) but I also wasn't that fond of Fat Charlie so I had trouble latching onto a character that I could really root for. In the end though, this was a fun and enjoyable story.

This novel didn't smack me across the face with awesome, as I was led to believe it would. What am I missing?
