Much better then the last two books. The sandman slim that we all came to know and love comes back which just makes this novel as good as the 3rd one.

“Life is a bucket of shit, with a barbed wire handle”. Kadrey has a way with words and his imagination seems limitless. Having just finished book 8, and knowing that there are two more Sandman novels published and one more being written, I already want to start re-reading the whole series. It is just FUN, and I forget that this heaven, hell, god, and devil universe is just made up. It fells like these ancient texts that are quoted are actually real because of the way Kadrey writes.
Every ending makes me want to jump into the next book in the series.

Disclosure: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. My opinions are my own, though.

I'm really enjoying the growing complexity of Stark - particularly his insecurity about how he fits into a world he never really expected to remain a part of. He is not a "good" person, but he is often motivated to do "good" things. His relationships are complex (just look at him and Kasabian). And, he suffers PTSD from everything he's seen and done, but has ignored it for too long because he honestly didn't believe he'd make it. Almost losing everything he cares about has him doing a bit of self-reflection, but it's not annoying because Stark knows how pathetic it might sound.

Kadrey is a great storyteller. It's gritty and violent in Stark's world, but in his own way he's trying to make it a bit more beautiful. I love how few characters are ever fully what they seem, and good and evil can be one and the same.

Yo, Richard. Stark *really* needs the room back, even if he has to fight the kissi and elder gods to get it. Book 9, make it happen!

I don't write reviews of a lot of books, but this one outshone all of the others in the series.

This book contains Sandman Slim at his finest, all of the ass kicking with some unique obstacles thrown in and the only ending in the series that left me wondering what comes next.

The characters went exactly where I expected them to go, and yet somehow it was still surprising where they ended up. Hats off to the audiobook reader, he was absolutely fantastic.
