The Death and Life of Bobby Z, by Don Winslow

“Anything the government makes illegal makes us money. Drugs, people, sex. I’m hoping they outlaw oxygen next.”

This one is a romp in the style of Carl Hiaasen.
Basically it is several groups of men all trying
to kill a "Bobby Z" impersonator.
Don Winslow always writes well, and the plot
is simple enough with scenario after scenario
of the Bobby Z guy getting into a predicament
but always cominng out on top.
There is a pleasurable aspect to the story when
the author does a few twists to the ending to
make it a good pasttime reading.

Like King’s Firestarter, but better!

Who doesn’t love a chase book, with plenty of jeopardy, and a host of situations where you can’t see the way out!

Essentially, this is Stephen King’s Firestarter, with an even weirder story, more threats from different angles, and a protagonist who you really end up getting behind!

A great story, well worth a read! Another page-turner by Mr. Winslow!

This was an interesting book. It is about loser in jail that kills one of the Hell's Angels and therefore is pretty much going to die one way or another. He ends up getting a break that turns out to be not so much of a break after all.

The writing in this book stinks, except it really doesn't. There are fragment sentences all over the place and obsentities abound, but it reads like the guy is actually talking, so it works.

There are a few twists in the book that make it interesting and all in all, it has that "happy ending" thrown in for good measure.

Don Winslow is a wonderful writer. A bit like Cormac McCarthey if he took a couple giant steps away from David Lynch.

Good crime fiction. Basically a story of men, with women as a backdrop.
