This is the second or third I've read in this series and I think it's becoming my first or second favorite cozy mystery series! (Competing with Jill Churchill's Grace and Favor series). It's actually making me want to give her Molly Murphys another try---I didn't enjoy the first one I read, but this doesn't even sound like the same author. Only a few parts bugged me---mostly raunchy comments from Darcy, which I believe were meant to cast doubt upon his character. All in all, I think I'll continue reading this series for now.

3.5 stars - My first Rhys Bowen book and I found it pretty entertaining. I have several in the series so plan to continue on. The first book in the series had a lot of set up.

I wish I liked this book more than I did. The premise was good - Georgie, 34th in line to the throne of England, goes out on her own in London after her brother cuts off her allowance. Eager to be independent, she starts an unlikely job and hangs out with her friends, having a grand old time until a dead body shows up in her bathtub. Mystery and hijinks ensue. The problem is it's just...meh. Took half the book for anything interesting to happen, and I almost felt it was trying too hard to be witty. Not sure I'll try more in this series.

Amusing. Features a plucky heroine who at first reminded me a bit of Amelia Peabody but then who unfortunately suffers by that comparison. The flirtation with Darcy O'Mara is fun though somewhat formulaic. In short, a light mystery romp with diverting appeal.

audiobook note: Katherine Kellgren is simply delightful.

Her Royal Spyness
4 Stars

Lady Victoria Georgina Charlotte Eugenie is 34th in line to the British throne. Unfortunately, she is also penniless and about to be married off to a pompous Romanian prince. To avoid this dreaded future, Georgie escapes to London where things go from bad to worse after she discovers the body of an arrogant Frenchman in her bathtub, and her brother, the Duke, is arrested for murder. Will Georgie be able to discover the real killer before it is too late?

A light hearted, charming and amusing cozy mystery that is not to be taken too seriously at all.

Set in 1930s London, a time period that is very familiar to me, the portrayal of the English aristocracy and upper classes is astute and incisive.

The mystery is rather obvious and it is easy to figure out the culprit, although the motive lacks foundation. Nevertheless, it is fun following along with Georgie as she stumbles across the various clues and almost gets herself killed on a number of occasions.

While the minor romance is engaging, Georgie's love interest needs work in order to fully fit the role of redeemable rake. It will be entertaining to see how that comes about.

Katherine Kellegrin's narration is superb. Her accents are spot on and she delivers each and every hilarious line of dialogue with wit and aplomb.

All in all, a lovely beginning to a promising series. Looking forward to Georgie's next adventure.
