before going into this book, i had high hopes for it because it seemed to have a few elements to it that i really love in fiction; but i cannot figure out exactly what prevented this experience from being as fulfilling as i thought. i do think that there is still a lot to appreciate about this novella but i also think that maybe it just wasn't for me, personally.

Liked only the last sentence of the book. Very confusing not in the good way...

At times I loved it, at times I thought I might hate it. Vivid and violent language and imagery surrounding female rage, which I’m very into at the moment. I didn’t always enjoy not knowing what was real and what was imagined/hallucinated/metaphorical, though I know that was likely intentional and reflective also of the protagonist’s own mental state/gradual loss of touch with reality - I found it sometimes slowed me down. I think I will try the other 2 books in the ‘involuntary trilogy’ anyway, but might take a short break from books about women going mad for a bit.

a slow-paced book written in stream of consciousness that makes it hard to put down. i’ll never stop reading novels like this, about womanhood and madness, gender and motherhood.
