3.5/5 Stars. In this book the world of Oz is still whimsical and odd and fun. There is some era based sexism that I don’t love, as well as a lack of leading ladies. I am curious about what comes next in the series.

An amazing second book in the oz series . You meet some very interesting characters, and you follow the story great characters and meet some old and new faces. Great book for any one into wizard of oz and want to follow a great story

This was another fun OZ book.
Introducing a new group of characters, but bringing back a couple of the old favorites.
Magic, witches, sorcery, conflict, and adventure galore!
This had a great bit of a twist at the end as well, which I will not ruin, but it is one that I did not see coming. Some things in the book are very convenient to be able to rescue the heroes, but at this day and age, that was the norm so no harm, no foul.
An enjoyable read.

Reading this aloud to my youngest. Mr Baum was apparently unconcerned with continuity, as a number of details are different from the first book. The story is mostly as I remember it, with a few parts which had escaped my recall. Good for younger children as a chapter a night bedtime story.
A fine fantasy romp through the land of Oz, the beliefs and sentiments of the characters are reflective of the time period in which it was written. This is most evident in reference to General Jinjur's army of revolt, which makes it clear that Mr. Baum was not a supporter of female sufferage.

Magically lovely! Always was one of my favorite Oz books. Number 3 is probably my #1, though!

I really liked this second installment in the books of Oz. I enjoyed the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman again (my favorite characters from the first book) but also really enjoyed the added characters of the Saw Horse, Jack Pumpkin Head, and my newest favorite, The Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, Thoroughly Educated. I hope he comes back :)
