Title: A Daring Proposition
Author: Casey Hagen
Genre: Romance
Rating: *****
Review: The opening to A Daring Proposition was beautiful, we meet Emberly Blair who runs her own company called Blair Photography where she empowers women to feel good about their bodies without using things like photoshop or air-brushing. I loved seeing the way Emberly or Em as she likes to be called interact with her clients as she always sees the beauty in them and helps them to see it too. We also meet Seth who is a tech genius who loves women in every sense of the word, his friend Roz recommends Emberly for a photo shoot he needs doing while at a club where Em just happens to be with her best friend.
As we approach the ¼ mark in the novel we see Emberly and Seth meet for the first time and she calls him on his bullshit and points out the insecurities that he tries so hard to hide. She does offer her help but only if he truly wants it. I loved Emberly snarky, witty attitude and how she project this confident, defiant persona onto the world. I also loved the way she interacts with Seth and from the get go they have a sort of love/hate relationship and it stuns Roz when they talk or rather Em shouts at Seth.
As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel we see Em do Seth’s photo shoot but they also come to an arrangement where she will be his plus one to the dedication ceremony and he will be her plus one to her best friend; Alain’s wedding. During the shoot they exchange a lot of witty banter and dry humour but there is a lot of sexual chemistry between them which does result in a very hot make out scene and I honestly can’t wait to see more of their steamy, snarky scenes.
As we approach the halfway mark in the novel I loved the way Em refers to Seth as Stick-Up-The-Ass and when he meets Alain and his fiancée for the first time I was laughing so hard. I loved how even though they haven’t known each other long and didn’t get along great at first Seth and Em fall into a relationship that is somewhere between lovers and best friends.
As we cross into the second half of the novel I loved the first sex scene between Seth and Emberly, it does feel a little rushed and that is because it is they don’t have a lot of time and they don’t really want to wait. I liked the fact that Em is a strong, independent woman but surrenders her pleasure to another so easily. As the engagements they both agreed to attend as the other’s plus one approaches, we see that neither Em or Seth has a good family relationship and they confide in one another.
As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel we get to see Alain’s wedding which is rudely interrupted by Alain’s uncle but Em doesn’t really care since Seth has promised her a spanking and she seems 100% more focused on that. We also see that Seth and Em have deep feelings for one another despite not really knowing one another that well. We also see Seth ask for more than Em is willing to give but he is so determined that he won’t give up until Emberly is completely and solely his, no matter what it takes. To avoid him Emberly throws herself into her work and tries to keep Seth out of her mind but is failing quite miserably.
As we cross into the final section of the novel we see Em uncover what Seth has been doing by paying for her mother’s rehab, she feels so betrayed that she just can’t be around him and although she isn’t ready for goodbye she feels it is the right thing to do. The ending of this novel was great with both Seth and Emberly getting what they need from one another and I hope to see more of the ship very soon.
Overall, I found A Daring Proposition funny and beautiful in equal measures and I would highly recommend it as a quick and easy romantic read with some highly entertaining comedic elements.
