The slow pace in audio book form was perfect for listening to while painting. It had similar vibes to Manda Scotts Boudica, but softer. Bad stuff and plots still happen, but things still worked out for the main character. Which was nice, because I was not quite in the mood for the historical tragediy that often goes with this timeline.

This was very good. A+ fictional sibling relationship between Hild and Hereswith.

I finished this book after like... four years? I kept bouncing off of it because the prose is dense and full of old non-English words—there's a glossary, but the Kindle version didn't handle that well.
But yeah! A really cool coming-of-age story about a tall, spooky disaster bisexual growing up at court in pre-England in the 600s. 10/10.
