Flitting fast through the lives of two sisters, The It Girls refuses to let reader  get a grasp of setting or enjoy juicy bits when its in a rush to get to the next plot point.

Pretty good read. I am glad that Julian Fellowes and Downton Abbey have given me the visualization of this time period in England. I liked how the book moved right along through the decades. I got tired of the two sisters at the end, but they are based on real people so maybe that’s just how they were. I will read her other book The Royal Nanny.

It should have been an interesting book but unfortunately the conversations were so overblown and the rest was just plain boring. Back to the library with you.

I was disappointed in this, somehow. It had elements that could have made it fascinating, but something just failed to grab me. YMMV.

I wanted to read this book because it is based in historical fact. But, the dialogue left me feeling a little flat.

Historical fiction about two sisters who were It Girls in their day.

Lucile Duff Gordon survived the sinking of the Titanic. This happened in the middle of this book. So, just picture what an exciting life Lucile led.
She was a self made woman,a very famous fashion designer.

Her younger sister, Elinor, was a famous romance novelist.

Very entertaining story.
I'm not going to go into any more detail because I don't want to risk any spoilers of their stories.

I did not like this book. It was hard to read because it was covering too much time over the span of the book.

I struggled with this one. It just didn't hook me in as I thought it would from the description.

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway and even though it didn't fit for me I'm thankful for the opportunity.

The It Girls is a work of historical 'faction'. I enjoyed reading it for the history and pop culture of the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is bizarre in that the parts that seemed most unlikely are true: surviving the Titanic, divorces, sex scandals, amazingly out there women (two in the one family, no less), a husband with an eye patch... the list goes on.
Both Lucile and Elinor Sutherland - sisters who found fame and fortune through writing and courturiership respectively - are mentioned in Downton Abbey, so what's not to love?
