I wasn't expecting some of the twists in this, and I feel like maybe they could've been hinted at more. I'm worried about David's feelings in subsequent books. I think he's going to get jerked around, even if unintentionally. Otherwise, another solid Malinda Lo book.

The pacing is strange, but I guess that's life for you. I think I was a little disappointed by everything that happened once R and D step off the plane at the end.
SpoilerBut WHY do the aliens want to give humans those powers?? WHY?????? Also, I'm here for alien ex-girlfriends, less here for mind reading ~mysterious powerful connections~ with boys, but that's a personal bias.

What a great read! Loved seeing a YA novel explore sexuality other than hetero in the main character AND others, in a way that is believable AND relevant to the story being told. Love the conspiracy theories, premise and characters and look forward to seeing where this series goes!

I liked it at the beginning but the farther it went the more I wasn't into it honestly... I just... I don't entirely know how to put it into words.

I mean. I kind of do. I dunno!! I had high hopes for it.

Sure were a lot of birds.

3.5 Stars. It took way too long for this plot to really get rolling but once it did I was mentally captivated. Despite wishing the story had captivated my emotions more strongly and being frustrated with the long stretches of scenes that did little to progress the plot or effectively foreshadow, even in retrospect, the connections revealed in the end, I will be picking up the sequel in hopes that it will take the good parts of this novel (which include some great characters) and do even better with them.

the scifi thriller aspect was intense but i have to say it's refreshing read a bi girl book where there is both a guy LI and a girl LI they're both given development and the MC isn't framed as a slut or whatever for experiencing/expressing attraction to both ppl.
