This is an extremely inventive and fun read with magic, action, and romance all rolled together. The whole series is a delight.

This was delightfully diverting.

Dina is an Innkeeper. You know, the kind with a magic house, a demon dog, and a resident war criminal. Oh you don't know about this? And here I haven't even mentioned the werewolf next door. It's a fun little urban fantasy romp, full of suburban tropes and magical shenanigans.

At this point, some of you who know me may have raised your eyebrows. No, it's not my usual. But I didn't want anything dense or angsty or super thought provoking. I just wanted something quick and fun, and this fit the bill.

Characterization is fantastic. From the casual sadism of the Inn's only guest, to Dina's not-quite-unflappable self, to the way the local werewolf is hyper-masculine without crossing the line into ick, I had more quiet chuckles than I've had in a while. The plot isn't complicated, it's sort of action/mystery, but the characters really are what sells this. And wonder of wonders, the romantic tension didn't send me screaming. This writer team knows how to strike a balance with the tropes and reality. (Or... inasmuch as reality applies here.)

Part of me wants to write more, but hyperanalyzing this lovely snack of a read would kind of defeat the point of reading it. Solid 3 stars because "I liked it." On to the next book :)

I absolutely adored this book in ways that I could not even expect. I knew that I was expecting some fantasy and maybe some romance but it was shockingly charming and still had a great sense of humor for having a lot of murder and murderous creatures. I also really enjoyed the romance aspect but the fact that it was a small part and not the over arching theme. Innkeepers are my new favorite.

i listened to the audiobook with full cast, sound effects, and cinematic music which was,, an experience. i could've done without some of the sound effects, but it was still a fun listen and i will definitely listen to the other books as well if i find the time before my scribd subscription ends

It's a nice quick read. I'm very intrigued by the innkeeper's type of magic. I'll definitely be continuing the series.
