In Ms. St. John's trilogy, she shares her relative’s history, drawn from family diaries and at least one history written by an ancestor. This follows the lives of three main female characters and their clandestine activities on both sides of the battle of England throughout the English Civil War as families separated by opposing allegiances. Ms. St. John brings history to life and, what astonishing metaphors. To history lovers, I highly recommend this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

From the very first page, I knew this was one I was going to love. First of all, this era, this setting, this concept in history is one of my favorites ever to read about, to learn about, and to see the different perspectives of each individual at this time fascinates me beyond belief. So this was everything I could’ve possibly wanted in a historical fiction.

The author’s writing style is so unique with magically eerie quality that it instantly captivated me. The different point of views, the different sides that we were perceiving were all very enthralling and very well told.

If I read correctly, I think it was stated that the author pulled from her personal family’s history and it completely blew my mind. The accuracy of the mindsets and the events that played out was complete perfection. It was exactly what I would expect of factual history but with the author’s own approach and it made for a very compelling novel that I could not set down!

An amazing depiction of the unflinching truth and behind the scenes that played out in history while also highlighting perfectly the role that women took on behind the scenes as kingkillers, as spies, as rebels, the roles that aren’t emphasized in history and I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it.
