Not sure of this story affected me more because I'm a parent of children/some now adults, or because I have my own traumas and mental health issues. The main characters are all flawed like real people and make the best and worst decisions like we all do.
I read this all in one sitting, started at 11pm and finished at 2 am. The storyline hooks start early with this one and pull all the way through. Heartbreaking all the way through to the end.
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Body shaming, Bullying, Child death, Cursing, Death, Eating disorder, Fatphobia, Infidelity, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Sexual content, Toxic relationship, Blood, Vomit, Police brutality, Medical content, Grief, Stalking, Car accident, Death of parent, Pregnancy, Abandonment, Alcohol, and Classism

The timelines shifting really confused me, and I would often forget where we were in time which made some scenes a tad confusing.
The pacing was a little jarring as well - some of the scenes we got barely any time with and I wanted a little more explanation. The day itself lasted forever and was the most infuriating part of the book. There were just too many events that happened on that day and Grace's reaction to each was a little...befuddling.
I think this may be better if I were to reread it now knowing what happens so I can pay more attention to the detail. Because despite the criticism, the characters are interesting, there is a lot of depth, and it really explores grief in an illuminating way.
I'm not a mother, but it has certainly made me reflect on my relationship with my mum.
Overall, good, but I think I would have preferred it if told linearly.
Graphic: Child death and Grief
Moderate: Child abuse and Sexual content

I guess the author was trying to explore the importance of womanhood and all the nuances around being a strong woman.
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Child death, Infidelity, Mental illness, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Grief, and Sexual harassment
