3.5 stars. Not my favorite Alafair Burke, but even when she’s just ok I’ll still enjoy the book overall.

I flew through this book, I really am enjoying reading Alafair Burke's novels. A few times I thought I knew who did it, but then things would change. I knew that I wouldn't know until the end who actually killed Adam. Great read!

There is no shortage of suspects when an attorney turns up murdered in his home. When his teenaged son Ethan is arrested and charged for the crime two women, who had been long estranged, come together to support him and stand by him during the trial. One woman is the person he calls Mom but she is actually his aunt and step mother. The other is his birth mother, the sister of the other woman. His father had divorced his mother and was granted full custody of Ethan. A few years later his father marries his mother's sister and she becomes Ethan's step-mother. Confused yet?

Not everyone is telling the truth but sorting it all out is not easy. I did not see the end coming and no, I did not guess who the murderer was.

I unfortunately had a hard time getting into this one -- Once I did, it was an OK read.

This was an interesting story. It turned out to be more of a courtroom drama but it was interesting and kept me reading. I liked it a lot and it was well written.

Chloe is a rich a famous New York magazine executive and feminist figurehead. She's married to Adam, a lawyer. Except her past is a little more sketchy. Turns out, Adam was married to her sister Nicky before they got divorced and Chloe and Adam married. And Ethan is Chloe's stepson, and also her nephew. But more comes to light when Adam is murdered and the trial brings out all the dirty secrets.
