A boy that doesn't like to go to sleep gets an annoying toy that's supposed to help him fall asleep.

"You ever wonder what it all means? I mean, are we just puppets living out some master puppeteer's plan, or-"

OMG. That line just killed me. So woke for a children's story. Definitely thrown in for the adult's benefit. I loved the little reveal of the goodnight buddy's scheme, very cute.

3.5 Super fun that the illustrator had Roderick read one of the author's books to Sleepy.

Fun illustrations of a little boy who hates going to bed and always comes up with an excuse or request to postpone bedtime. When his parents get him a new stuffed animal, named Sleepy, to be his sleeping buddy and help him fall asleep Roderick has no idea what hits him. With some irony that most kids won't get, this book is probably more fun for the adults than the kids. Although, elementary age kids will probably appreciate it. A decent story time offering for older preK - 4th grade.

Great opportunity to model reading with expression, plus it’s funny and kids will totally relate.

Oh the irony! Daywalt sure knows how to get kids chuckling. This would make a funny read-aloud for a school visit, especially for kindergarten and up, as story includes the phrase "witch's butt." Made me laugh. Geared toward older kids and adults, the latter most of all I believe. Scott Campbell illustrations are delightful as ever and those that loved Zombie in Love (DiPucchio & Campbell) and The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors (Daywalt & Rex) will get a big kick out of it.
