This was a really important, powerful story. I really enjoyed it, however, it definitely started slow and took too much, unnecessary time establishing the setting and the way the characters interact before getting into the main subject matter at the core of the story. When it got to that content, I felt it moved too fast, so a bit of a pacing issue in there, too.

*please check tigger warnings before reading* this read was very hard to get through since it dealt with very really and heartbreaking topics but I loved it. Especially the authors note at the end. Also please be gentle with yourself while reading this book, it’s important but not more important than your mental health.

The characters are boring, there’s too much action and not enough internal thoughts throughout the story. It’s too long to keep going.

The last hour (roughly 1/10) took me so long to read because I could only listen to a few moments at a time. It is so emotionally heavy to read. Give yourself time and space for this book.

The POV switching in the beginning made the story feel a bit disjointed - I would be just starting to get into Dani's or Claire's story when the chapter ends abruptly and we change to the other girl's POV. It smooths out in the second half as the girls become more connected.

Being Filipino myself, I was wary of the representation this offered me, but I think it succeeded in not tokenizing Dani. Her financial situation was presented almost matter-of-factly, without overwrought pity. The cast is mostly Asian, and their voices & personal issues were distinct enough to dispel the idea of a unified Asian-American experience. While the things that Dani and Claire went through made me feel sick, the book ends on a hopeful note.

This was a really good book! I loved how different the two main characters were but yet you rooted and emphasized with both of them. Dani and Claire were both so strong and driven and it was refreshing. I loved how the book was entertaining and attention grabbing. It had great commentary on sexual assault and how different it can look, affect people, and that it can happen to anyone. It gave a realistic depiction of sexual assault. But the entire book wasn't heavy and dark there was fun moments. It was definitely more of a character focused read but the plot was gripping as well. The best part of this book was how Dani and Claire slowly started to understand, care for, and become friends with each other.  Oh this was so cute and I think people will get a lot of reading it. I also read it on Audio and it was a great Audiobook. The narrators did a great job drawing you in. I would love to read more books from this author in the future and overall read more books like this. 10/10 would recommend.
