I just couldn’t. I read mixed reviews and as I continued to read, it just felt weird. I started this book because of the movie that’s coming out. I’ll wait for the movie to see how it is. But the obsession Travis begins to have is borderline creepy and scary. I don’t know if it gets better or if he learns, but still weird.

With the movie adaptation announced, I decided it was time to give this series a reread. While I still enjoyed the book this time around, I just felt like parts of their relationship was missed. I wanted to see more scenes from them living together and from them once they were actually a couple. Instead it felt like the timeline just kept jumping and I was left wanting more.

This was hard to decide on a rating for. This was one of the first books of its kind that I read which is why it has a spot in my heart. I remember thinking it was very original when I first read it. I loved that Travis was super alpha male, loved the emotional rollercoaster, loved the morally ambiguous MC. However, looking back, it’s not that she does those things particularly well - it was just the first time I read that so it was very exciting.

I have to admire that this was one of the first popular books with this style and genre. To me, that makes it worth more since she was doing it before there were a lot of models to get ideas from.

I will say, I’ve never really liked Abby. While I love a good emotional rollercoaster, she was just wishy-washy and never knew what she wanted. She’d trample all over other people’s feelings and then blame it on them. She never really grew out of that.

ABUSO! EBA!

I'm typically okay with reading about toxic relationships, but their relationship is painted in a positive light especially in later books with
SpoilerTravis' brothers wanting a relationship like theirs. It's their ideal despite how toxic both characters are to each other, more so Travis than Abby. Abby makes a few comparisons between her emotionally abusive, heavy gambler father and Travis, pointing out how alike they are but... still choosing to stick with Travis, which made their relationship unlikable for me.

Travis also has violent tendencies such as
Spoilertrashing his entire room and practically most of his apartment because Abby won't see him anymore.
I also don't understand how Travis has a six-pack when we never ever learn about his work-out routine, and I believe he said once that he doesn't go to the gym at all.

Yeah. The book wasn't for me.
