This felt like it was meant to expand on existing characters— something like a prequel to another series. It was rushed and just kind of stopped before anything interesting occurred.

It’s a start

But I’m not sold that this is a novel - I definitely feel like this should have been a novella to start The Spinsters Guild series, especially with the ending. Nice characters that I look forward to learning more about, but not too much of a plot.

A New Beginning by Rose Pearson – Emily begged Lord Havisham to save her from a marriage of her father’s choosing. When she is released from mourning and returns to the Ton, she finds herself once again in his company. But this time, she has taken on a little flock of spinsters to mentor and hopefully settle into marriages much happier than hers. And she knows just the gentleman to help her accomplish it! Happy Reading!

This review pretty much sums this one up for me. I liked the characters quite a lot in this story (exception noted for Emily's father, who was not intended to be likeable after essentially sold her into marriage and then doubles down by spreading malicious gossip about his own daughter). Some of the utter and complete crap that women had to endure back then makes my blood fairly boil and much of the plot points of this story hinge on those factors. Despite such historical baggage, the plot remains mostly light. My main complaint was that the story ended so abruptly that it felt like some pages were accidentally omitted. Emily and the "will she or won't she forgive him" plot remains hanging and the Guild is barely formed before WHAM, the end.

I absolutely loved this book! The plot, characters, setting are just dynamite! I was kept turning the pages long into the night! Truly a wonderful tale that you will want to add to your library!
