Do you want to cry? If yes, read this book. I openly sobbed in my partner's lap the moment I finished it. The characters were so real and so familiar. The writing was breath taking. This was the book I decided to start annotating with and I've probably marked and/or highlighted every other page. I will read anything by her. All in all, a stunningly grounded story of family and living.

Bit uncertain how I feel about the ending, it seemed to drag for a little bit +
Spoilerincest,,, I knew it was coming it was heavily hinted at but pls why

The writing in this book, however: immaculate, impeccable, lyrical but with just the right edge of uneasiness and without covering up the disgusting and horrible things. I loved the use of metaphors and repeated sentences and all the discussions about race and ideology and poverty- sublime and real and powerful. Really incredibly well done. I definitely recommend this novel.
