Always enjoy a mythology driven stories. The art style elevates the story so well.

The Divine reads like a lucid dream. Intense art from the Hanuka brothers rips and tears paired with Lavie's story that feels pulled from ancient lore build to a breaking point and explode as would a painted volcano.

Well, I did tag this as want-to-read before it showed up on the 2016 Hugo ballot, so I did have an interest in it. Doubtless it was this from the Good Reads description "a civil war led by ten-year-old twins wielding something that looks a lot like magic, leading an army of warriors who look a lot like gods." Bonus: there is a dragon. All of this is interesting. The execution...is disappointing. I'm not a fan of the art. The story is sparse and even without the art, it's very brutal. Most of the interesting mythic bits occur in a few pages. I actively disliked both American characters (although one was worse than the other), I didn't care for the twins, and I dislike the stereotypical way the races were portrayed. This is a Rabid Puppy nomination and now I have to decide whether or not it deserves it and I'm leaning towards not. It's getting two stars because I didn't actually throw it across the room. This also fulfills my Reading Challenge "read a book by an author you've never read before" (PopSugar 2015) - it may also be the last that I read by them.

This has been on my to-read-comics list for AGES now and I finally read it!! Was it worth the wait? Hell yeah. Inspired by a photo of real life twin child guerrilla soldiers from Myanmar, these twin artists created a fictional South East Asian country where a civil war is being waged by possibly magical 10 year old twins. It's bizarre and upsetting and plain weird, and 100% worth reading.
