About 4.5 stars. This was a really good, quick easy read that I finished in about a day. While I liked it a lot I don't like quite as much as the Darkest Powers series. The whole supernatural thing isn't brought up much in this book until the end, which I was a bit dissapointed about. Although, I feel this book had more of a back-story I guess you could say. I was also left with many unanswered questions, most being what supernatural being all the other teens on the island might be. I also really like Daniel and I'd much rather see him and Maya together instead of Maya and Rafe. I'm really excited for the next book, especially since they should be meeting up with Chloe and the gang, so I'd like to see how that plays out. Hopfully I'll get my answers in the next book, and more on Maya's real family.

I liked the story, and the main character is pretty good, but I just feel like there wasn't enough to it and it ended kind of abruptly. It's an interesting take on the skinwalker idea, but there just wasn't really enough to it for me to be super wowed.

Another masterpiece by Kelley Armstrong - can't wait for the next book!!!
If you loved the Summoning, the Awakening, and the Reckoning you will love this book as well! A definite must read :)

So, considering Darkest Powers Trilogy I love to death, I was very nervous about this book. Would I love it? Would I hate it? Would I be wishing Armstrong continued to write about Chloe and Derek instead? (Just FYI, on that last one it's a wish I've had since the end of The Reckoning).

But I liked it.

It had the usual Amrstrong writing pace and wording by a person I've gained a lot of familiarity with over the years, no matter how different the narrator is.

But I liked it.

Maya is a sometimes witty and smart kid. Maya I was especially able to relate to simply because I honestly felt like this character (with the same name as my sister) was the character that was most liked me. So, yeah. I wasn't too happy with some romance choices she made, but I could totally understand and relate to so it didn't seem so bad those choices she made.

And the links between this series and Darkest Powers? Definitely there. Even Liz was mentioned in the novel, so I have hopes that perhaps Derek and Chloe will make a surprise cameo.

The ending, as usual Armstrong style, ended in a way that made you curse the book and scream 'when's the sequel coming out?' in the middle of the car (which is where I finished reading it).

So... nothing horrible about it. But as far as I'm concerned, it's nothing really 'amazing, stunning and all round fabulous'.

Also Maya's uh... gift? (prevention of spoilers people. Crappy word choice I know). If you've read certain adult books (not Armstrong's), then you'll get her gift within the first couple of chapters. Not too much of a surprise, but a first for YA from what I can remember.

The book is nice. It's not earth-shattering, and it barely deserves a 4-star, but I'm feeling generous. It's too YA at times, and the characters are rather bland. Maya is, to a certain extend, a special snowflake. Good at everything. Her best friend, Daniel, is also good at everything. Heck, the whole town is full of "special" kids.

You can tell by my boring review that this book was a rather bore. It didn't make me scoff, so that's its redemption. I am, however, reading the second and third one, because mama didn't raise no quitter. I'm about 40% into the trilogy anyway, so why not.

I'm actually disappointed I bought this book but there we go.

I've not read anything from this author in a while so maybe my tastes have changed but this was just not as good as the other series I read.

I wanted to like it. Its interesting kind of quirky but ultimately for me boring and just too quirky.

This book was just okay. It was a slow development throughout the whole book, which made it difficult for me to get into. The last hundred pages or so were the most interesting part and creates a mystery that makes me want to find out what happened. However, it also seemed rushed. The author tried to make the main character, Maya, to be this likeable character who was popular in the town and well liked. To me, however, she was unlikable, snotty, judgmental, and the sort of person you just want to tell off. It made me question why anyone liked her at all. My dislike of the Maya character was also another reason why it took me a while to read through this book. Otherwise it was an okay read. I'll probably read the other sequels just to find out what happens.

This was a great idea, it had good writing, but took way too long to get anywhere. I feel like there was too much time put in setting up the world (which wasn't complicated) and not enough action. I also hate cliffhanger endings, so if you read this, be prepared to have book 2 if you need answers right away.
