If you are looking for a novel to read for the Christmas season, I highly recommend this one. It is totally off the wall, hilarious, but also quite moving. The hapless protagonist of the novel, having lost his job, begins stumbling through a series of holiday parties, starting with one on Christmas Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve. Each party is loonier than the last, culminating in an almost dreamlike sequence that ties together all the various threads in the book. Very funny but very moving, I loved the book and read it almost every year at Christmas time.
