This second book in the series just didn't keep my attention. Too bad, I did like the first one.

description

description

description

Nedaudz tā pēdējo nodaļu shēma saglabājas, bet...meh. :D

"Sometimes you're the one speeding along in a panic, doing too much, not paying attention, wrecking things you don't mean to. And sometimes life just happens to you, and you can't dodge it. It crashes into you because it wants to see what you're made of."

Before I started this book I was really hoping that the writing in Never Fade would be an improvement from The Darkest Minds. I think it was a slight improvement, but where Never Fade made up slightly in the writing technique, it lacked in plot.

The first ninety or so pages were really like pulling teeth to read, and I was trying so hard to force myself to get through it. I found myself doing anything to avoid reading it once I opened it up, and quite often I would read a page and then not remember anything I had just read. I thought that portion of the book was given way too much explanation than was necessary. It didn't jump into the action right away at all, which caused me to become really bored and I came very close to putting the book down and not finishing it.

Another problem I had with this book is that Bracken will bring something up, whether it's a person or event or organization, and I'll have absolutely no idea what she's talking about. She brings things up without ever having explained it beforehand, and the characters will be talking about it while I'm completely clueless as to what's going on until she explains it later, at which point I usually have to go back and re-read so I can understand what happened. She would drop cliffhangers or revelations that are supposed to shock us, but she never goes back and really explains what happened; it's just barely hinted at, so I'm never quite sure whether I assumed the right thing.

I thought that this book skipped over so much and left so much important information left unsaid, while other things that seem totally irrelevant were given way too much time, and this book (just as the first did) left me a little confused and disoriented most of the time. Many times it felt like I was like reading a passage in another language that was only half translated into a language I speak. I was trying so hard to piece together what is happening, but it wasn't coming together completely.

I will give credit to Bracken for the better quality of world building in this book. The explanation of the locations was a little better in this book, although still not great at times. The plot was a bit lackluster compared to the first book, and I was definitely disappointed that nothing huge seemed to happen (and when it did, I didn't even realize ha ha). We get to see some new characters, and a few you will grow to love. The ending was incredibly sad for me... that's all I'll say. Just as the first book, Never Fade could have had some serious editing, but overall it was a decent read if you can get through the beginning.
