This is a great book for beginning chapter book readers. The main character wants a dog so badly that he is trying all kinds of things to convince his parents. I think many children can relate to this situation. There are many humorous situations throughout.

Ishan wants to get a dog SO BADLY that he does things that he thinks will make his mom happy and also want a dog! Hilarity ensues!
I loved that this book was a contemporary, (truly) realistic fiction title for the 3rd-4th grade group. It's one step up from Stink and is a perfect in-between title, truly intended for 3rd-4th graders. It's definitely too hard to be a "first chapter" book, but is great for that next step.
I also loved that this was a contemporary novel about a (I think) first-generation Indian kid. He's a normal, goofy kid and he happens to be of Indian descent. I can see a number of our patrons really identifying with Ishan.
