PWP where the W does stand for "with" but pretty loosely.

I started Girl's Weekend a few years ago when I was still deciding whether or not I liked monster romance, but put it down before finishing. Now that I have decided that I DO in fact love a good monster romance, I picked it back up and very much enjoyed the read.

This book is a great introduction to Cambric Creek, the town where most of Nascosta's stories take place, despite focusing on the nearby resort town of nudist orcs. The characters we meet in this book are very lovable, and the plot (as little as there really is) is positive and focuses on women who are rejecting the expectations society places on them while embracing what brings them joy.  I certainly preferred some of the girl's storylines over others, but given that we are following three characters, it was bound to happen!

I'd recommend this book as a litmus test if you're looking at getting into monster romance (particularly if you're looking to branch out from vampires and werewolves) as it is relatively tame, but also contains many of the genre's tropes. It also works well as a light read for those who already enjoy the genre and it makes a great introduction to C.M. Nascosta's work.

Overall I found the book to be funny, positive, and quite spicy.

The amount of body-shaming language is... A Lot. I understand it's realistic to an extent, but it really felt like every time it was Lurielle's POV, we were treated to at least one paragraph of unflattering descriptions about how ugly she found her body to be. There were other aspects that were off-putting to me, as well, that I can't articulate quite as well. Tropes were used that I'm usually fine with in romance even if they're not healthy irl, but for some reason in this one, they were distracting and uncomfortable. Anyway, really sucks I didn't enjoy it more because I was hoping to

I wasn’t prepared for one of the main characters to have such a big problem with her body. I currently have those kinds of thoughts swirling around in my head and it just took me out of the book way too much to see it echoed on paper as well. I’m sure the book is wonderful and fun and spicy in the best ways, but I just can’t do it right now.

"A man who lets you each cheese, encourages it even! This really is the dream!"

Ris, Lurielle, and Silva all want to get away from their stressful office jobs for the weekend, and what better place than an orc community outside of town known for its clothing-optional rules and fun resort culture? Except Lurielle never expected to meet someone who made her feel so seen, Silva never expected to fall head over heels for a bad boy, and Ris never anticipated being so disappointed by her lack of luck. When the weekend is over, all three girls have to decide if their trysts were just flings of the moment, or if something more could be gleaned from them.

I feel like Girls Weekend is weirdly exactly what my brain needed as a break, but also didn't deliver on what I wanted at the same time. Was this short little novella a fun romp with lots of random orcs and the promise of more? Yes, but it also had me frustrated multiple times with the characters and wishing that the heartfelt scenes were a little longer. I adore Nascosta's other books in the Cambric Creek world, but this one felt like it was missing a spark that the other's have.

Out of all of the girls, I loved Silva the most. I wanted Lurielle to be my favorite, but her insecurities started to grate on my nerves when she kept trying to foil Khash's sweetheart behavior from the start. Along that same vein, Ris just didn't mesh with me at all and though I want her to have a HEA, I feel like I'm not rushing to read more about her. Silva and Tate were my favorites for a lot of reasons and I'm definitely picking up the sequel to see more about their story, but I felt like this was overall just missing something for me.

Content warnings: sexual content (scenes vary, one MFF scene, one MFM scene), talk about cultural expectations/strict parents, negative body talk from Lurielle about herself, alcohol consumption, emotional abuse/toxic relationship (mentions in Lurielle's past, Silva's present), non-linear timeline and writing style (as with most of Nascosta's work! I feel like this one it's more prominent though.)

I had SO MUCH FUN!!! Love all of the characters. Tate is my absolute favorite, I’m so mad at myself for only getting this book and not the sequel. I’m a FOOL!

Taking off .25 stars just because of editing/grammar mistakes that kept popping up (like missing words) but overall I had a great time.

I listened to this as an audiobook so excuse my if I spell the names wrong but I really enjoyed this book! I liked Luriel and Silva a lot! I didn’t like the other woman as much and felt like she wasn’t as well developed as the other two characters and therefore could have been left out of this book altogether. BUT I can’t wait to read book two! I want to experience more of the relationships they formed :) so happy!

This was such a fun-loving read. It’s less about plot and more about fun characters having a good time and navigating through life.
