Never thought I'd read a Stephen King novel. But this was an amazing mix of social commentary and a fast paced roll.

This book was awesome. It was my first Stephen King book and it did not disappoint. Very suspenseful and awesome character development.

Such a fascinating concept and a different way to explore human nature under adverse circumstances. Definitely could have been edited down some -- parts felt repetitive. Some characters weren't very believable to me -- there needed to be some depth added to make them seem real. The end: meh. I understand what King was trying to do, it just fell a little short for me despite being entertaining.

When it comes to King it is hard to be bias, he is after all my favorite author. With that being said I really try to be honest and look at his books and review in a way that speaks to everyone, not just Stephen King fans.

This book is similar in style and scope as IT or The Stand. There is nothing supernatural, and no monsters and that what sets this book apart. The core story centers around the town of Chester's Mill, ME. Out of the blue a dome appears around the town and those inside can't get out, those outside can't get in.. This sets up a psychological thriller with many sub-plots, side stories, and an unforgettable cast of character's. This story has one of the greatest literary bad guys of all time with Big Jim Rennie. I don't know of another bad guy like this in any SK story, maybe Randal Flagg but he is a monster/supernatural being, Big Jim is just a psycho! He is one of the main characters who is trying to take over the town and make Chester's Mill his own little kingdom. You also have Dale Barbara aka Barbie and ex army drifter who Big Jim has it out for. There are cover-ups of murder, illegal activity like drug labs, embezzlement, aliens, and more!

This is a thrill ride like no other from King and from the first to the final page he hits the gas and takes you on a wild ride that will leave you guessing until the end. The last 100 pages are just horrific and unforgettable.

So who is this book for? Well if you like or love Stephen King this one of his best, I would put it in his top 10 books. This is more of a drama/thriller/psychological horror so if you are into that sort of thing this is the book for you. As I stated this about the monsters called men and the things people do when they are "rats in a cage". It is a madman and his quest for power, his lust and need to control others, the strength and weakness or others, being prey for bullies and more.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish and never got bored even though it was over 1000 pages. It felt a lot shorter and was just the right length. A solid 5/5!

A friend said that this book reminded her most of Needful Things. Having not read Needful Things, I'm going to say that the worldbuilding and long rise in tension reminded me most of The Stand. Like The Stand, most everyone you hate gets what they deserve, but maybe not in the way you want. But unlike The Stand, the antagonists here are 100% human, and all the more terrifying for it. The twist was a bit... odd... but overall I loved this book. May have (possibly) sobbed like a baby near the end, but there's no proving anything.

HATED IT. Can I give this negative stars?! Was okay with the whole dome thing, it was the dude running around murdering women because he had a migraine that I just couldn't take. I miss the Stephen King of the 80's.
